ago, when a major crater erupted, it's molten lava (enough to
fill Sydney Harbour in 6 days) flowed along the riverbeds.
These lava tubes are the oldest standing and best preserved
systems anywhere in the world. The Lava flow is the longest
from one single volcano stretching over 100 miles. Over time,
some of the roof collapsed and these fertile pockets preserved
mini ecosystems and rainforest plants from Gondwana some 300
million years ago. Mid afternoon return to Cairns.
Dinner in the
Rainforest:
You depart your
hotel with no idea of where you are going. Twenty minutes
later, after a journey taking you off the highway and along a
twisting dirt road through the forest, you arrive....and with
candle in hand, find your way along a flame lit trail to a
place beneath the canopy of the world's oldest rainforest.
Enveloped by ancient trees, the gentle music of the sleeping
forest is a fairytale setting for a magical, mystical and
sensual evening. You are greeted with champagne by the light
of a tree lit with your own candles. After a sumptuous and
innovative feast of exotic tastes amid the forest, the
haunting sound of a lone didgeridoo fills the air. This very
special evening concludes when you become an intrinsic part of
the tree planting program where you discover your
participation in the dinner has directly helped to replant the
forest in which you have dined.
